NBC Universal's Peacock Streaming Service : Do You Need It?
NBC Universal is gearing up for the launch of their brand-new streaming service: Peacock. Designed to give platforms like Netflix and Disney + a run for their money, Peacock will feature a wide range of TV shows and movies (over 15,000 hours of content, to be specific).
With a launch date of April 15th for Comcast Xfinity X1 users and July 15th for all users, Peacock isn’t here just yet. But, should you consider adding this new streaming service to your home entertainment collection?
Let’s find out.
Peacock Subscription Levels
NBC’s Peacock streaming service offers three subscription levels:
- Peacock Free
- Peacock Premium with ads
- Peacock Premium without ads
Peacock Free – as you’d expect – costs nothing to enjoy. This subscription level grants you access to 7,500 hours of content. This content library isn’t as extensive as those included with a Peacock Premium subscription, and it’s supported by ads.
The first level of Peacock Premium costs $4.99 per month and includes full access to the platform’s complete library. This version is supported by ads.
Peacock Premium without ads costs $9.99 per month. This is the highest subscription for Peacock and includes unlimited access to the 15,000-hour content library.
Content Offerings on Peacock
The content to be available on Peacock spans a broad range of categories, from NBC originals to hit movies to kids’ content and more. Here are the main types of shows and movies that you can expect:
- Currently airing NBC broadcast shows, available the day after they air
- Peacock original series
- Content from niche networks like “Family Movie Night” and “Olympic Profiles”
- Live sports content
- Latino content
○ Free subscribers get access to the first season of NBC broadcast shows
○ Paid subscribers get access to full seasons of NBC broadcast shows
○ Free subscribers get access to select episodes, not full seasons, of original shows
○ Paid subscribers get access to full seasons of original shows
○ Paid subscribers get access to extra sports content
Paid Peacock subscribers also get early access to late-night shows broadcasting on NBC, such as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
What About NBC Content On Hulu?
For Hulu subscribers that have been enjoying on-demand NBC content: don’t fret. NBC programming will still be available on Hulu for the time being. In two years, it’s possible that NBC will remove its content from Hulu, but it’s hard to say whether or not that will happen. So, for now, Hulu subscribers can keep on bingeing 30 Rock, The Office, and other NBC favorites.
Wrapping Up
Bottom line: We’re pumped for the release of NBC’s Peacock. With the availability of both free and paid subscriptions, this streaming platform is available to everyone. We’re seeing Peacock as a way for NBC to transition for a live TV network to a streaming powerhouse, making its popular content available anytime, anywhere. So, if you’re a Comcast Xfinity X1 user, gear up for the April 15th release date! The rest of us will have to wait until June, but if Peacock lives up to its hype, we’re sure that our patience will pay off.
