Streaming 101: What’s the Deal with YouTube TV?

Who’s It For: General Audiences, Cord Cutters
Why We Like It: Wide Programming Options, Easy-to-Use Interface, DVR Features
Price Tag: $49.99 per month

YouTube needs no introduction. It’s everyone’s favorite source of cat videos, movie clips, music videos, how-to instructions, and just about anything we could think of.

But… what’s the deal with YouTube TV?

Well, YouTube has launched a streaming service. And it’s a really good one!

For overall value, YouTube TV is one of our favorites. It’s a great solution for cord-cutters – you can replace a huge percentage of traditional cable or satellite TV service with the YouTube TV platform.

Today we’ll break down the basics and let you know why we think it’s a great deal.

(Remember, If you’d like personalized recommendations for streaming services based on your interests, make sure you check out our Streaming Cookbook!)

Cost & Programming Options

YouTube TV offers one primary programming package and it’s currently priced at $49.99 per month. However, if you purchase it through Apple’s App Store, there’s an extra $5 tacked on for a total of $54.99 per month.

YouTube TV has a great variety of programming available, everything from local channels to ESPN, including AMC, TNT, Animal Planet, Travel Channel, and a whole lot more.

There are a number of premium add-ons available for an additional cost.

Availability

You can access YouTube TV on a wide variety of devices, including iOS and Android mobile devices, Apple TVs, Roku devices, Xbox One, and much more. You can also watch directly through their web interface.

Chef’s Take

YouTube TV is one of the best options out there for cord-cutters who are getting away from cable TV entirely. It allows you to replace the vast majority of your programming, and their interface makes for an excellent viewing experience. At nearly $50 per month, it’s not a “budget” choice, but it’s a robust streaming platform poised for growth in the future.

Remember to use our Streaming Cookbook for personalized streaming recommendations based on your priorities and interests – including YouTube TV and many other streaming packages. Happy streaming!
