Is Netflix Still a “Must-Have” Streaming Service?
Way back in the “dark ages,” Netflix was the original streaming service for TV and movie fans.
When they first emerged on the scene, you may remember, Netflix didn’t even offer streaming. Instead, they delivered DVDs to your home through the mail! At the time, it was a revolutionary service, even though it’s primitive by today’s standards.
Their streaming service came later, as an add-on service that was initially met with skepticism.
It didn’t take long, however, for the world to fall in love with the streaming model – and Netflix became a household name.
However, in the last decade, serious competitors have emerged – heavyweights like Amazon Prime, Hulu, Sling TV, and many more.
So it’s worth asking the question – is Netflix still a “must-have” subscription?
Let’s break it down.
Why We Love Netflix
Even with gradual price increases, Netflix is still very budget-friendly with plans ranging from $8.99 – $15.99 per month.
Their original programming is impressive – with shows like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Stranger Things becoming cult classics.
Netflix also offers an excellent selection of high-quality movies and TV shows.
Where Netflix Falls Short
Netflix isn’t perfect. A common complaint is that their programming lineup changes frequently, which can be frustrating for many users.
For broadcast TV fans, Hulu offers a more impressive lineup.
And obviously, Netflix isn’t a solution for viewers that want access to live TV.
Chef’s Take
Even with increased competition, Netflix still provides excellent value for TV and movie fans. Their original programming lineup alone is worth the monthly cost for many viewers – and their movie selection is second to none. While fans of live TV will need to supplement their Netflix subscription with other streaming services, Netflix still fills a vital role within the streaming ecosystem.
