Four Streaming Options for Families with Kids

Streaming TV is a life-saver for parents – especially for parents with young kids. When the weather is bad and the kids are stuck in the house, streaming TV is the only thing that keeps many of us sane!

But it’s getting increasingly complicated to provide access to quality programming, keep your kids away from content that’s not age appropriate, and do it all at a reasonable cost.

Today we’re breaking down four of our favorite options for families with kids.

(As always, If you’d like personalized recommendations for streaming services based on your interests and your family needs, make sure you check out our Streaming Cookbook!)

Sling Orange + Kids Extra

Cost: $30/month

Sling is a great value for parents with kids. Their “Orange” package costs $25 per month, and for an extra $5 per month you can add their “Kids Extra” package which gives you access to a huge selection of kids programming. Programming includes Nick Jr., Baby TV, Disney Junior, and much more.

Amazon Prime

Cost: $119/year, but included free for Prime members

Amazon Prime has an excellent selection of family-friendly content. Your kids will have access to a wide variety of age-appropriate movies as well as TV shows. It’s included with your Amazon Prime subscription, which makes this a no-brainer for parents!

Netflix Kids

Cost: Base Cost of $8.99/mo, but no additional cost for Kids access

Netflix has a well-designed Kids section featuring age-appropriate content for children of all ages. There are robust Safety & Rating features available as well. There’s plenty of great movies and TV for your kids to choose from, and if you’re already subscribed to Netflix for adult use, there’s no reason not to setup a Kids profile for your children to enjoy.

PBS Kids

Cost: FREE!

PBS Kids is a high-quality, engaging app that provides live access to PBS, along with a wide selection of shows available on-demand. It’s a kid-friendly app and provides access to great programming that kids love. It’s especially valuable for parents with kids age 6 and below. And it’s free!
