CBS All Access: The Right Addition to Your Streaming Lineup?

As you well know, there are many, many streaming platforms to choose from nowadays. Alongside the heavy-hitters like Netflix and Amazon Prime, major cable networks are getting in on the action with streaming platforms of their own. CBS All Access is one such platform, representing the movies and TV series that were previously only available through the CBS cable channel. With live and on-demand streaming available at a low monthly price, is CBS All Access worth adding to your home entertainment lineup?

Let’s find out!

The Basics

Before we get into the specifics, let’s lay out the basics of what you’ll get as a CBS All Access subscriber. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. A subscription plan costs $5.99 to $9.99 per month.
  2. It’s streamable across virtually any device, with the capacity for three simultaneous streams.

The Content

CBS All Access offers an undoubtedly wide range of content, including but not limited to:

Live TV The content includes both live and on-demand content, including TV shows, movies, and sports content.

Live TV is a big component of the CBS cable channel, and it’s all available through CBS All Access. With a subscription, you’ll be able to watch popular live CBS shows including:

  • CBSN
  • The Late Show with Steven Colbert
  • The Late Late Show with James Corden
  • The Talk
  • ET Live

Sports Content

With CBS All Access, you can keep up with much of your favorite sports content, including:

  • NFL on CBS
  • NCAA on CBS
  • Hockey on CBS All Access
  • National Women’s Soccer League
  • UEFA Champions League
  • UEFA Europa League
  • UEFA Women’s Champions League

CBS Originals

CBS has created several popular original shows that you can check out anytime on CBS All Access, including:

  • The Good Fight
  • Star Trek: Picard
  • Star Trek: Discovery
  • Star Trek: Short Treks
  • Star Trek: Lower Decks
  • Stand
  • The Twilight Zone
  • Interrogation

Family Favorites

Looking for a streaming platform with family-friendly options? CBS All Access has you covered with these shows and more:

  • SpongeBob SquarePants
  • The Adventures of Paddington Bear
  • Big Time Rush
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender
  • Bob The Builder
  • CatDog
  • Danger Mouse
  • The Fairly OddParents
  • Lassie
  • Madeline
  • Rugrats

The Plans

There are two plans available for CBS All Access: Limited Commercials and Commercial Free. Both plans come with one week free.

The Limited Commercials plan costs $5.99 per month. This plan, as you probably guessed, will include commercials with all of the live and on-demand content that you watch. The amount of commercials that you’ll be shown is comparable to cable.

The Commercial Free plan costs $9.99 per month. This plan spares you from having to watch any commercials, and it provides the ability to download videos and play them offline. For just about $4 more per month than the Limited Commercials plan, we’d say that it’s worth it to pay a little bit more to avoid the ads.

The Verdict

Ultimately, we see CBS All Access as a solid option for people who frequent the content on the CBS cable channel but are looking to cut the cord. By coupling CBS All Access with one or two other streaming platforms, you’ll have plenty of content to entertain the household (including your CBS favorites) at a significantly lower price than the average cable plan.
