Here's What's Coming to Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video in 2020

As we’re officially settling into a new year, we’re eager to see what the coming months will bring for streaming content. All of the leading streaming platforms are set to release plenty of fresh original series this year – with star-studded casts and acclaimed directors, these streaming-exclusive shows aren’t to be missed.

Here, we’ll fill you in on all of the major content updates to look out for in 2020.

Netflix

New and Exciting Netflix Original Series

What do Netflix subscribers have to look forward to this year? A slew of new, original, and bingeable shows! Here’s a handful of the most highly anticipated Netflix series set to debut this year:

  • Self-Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker
    • Starring Octavia Spencer and Tiffany Haddish

Madam C.J. Walker was the first American, black, female self-made millionaire. In this limited series, we’re taken through the development of her revolutionary black hair care company amidst post-slavery racism, sexism, and business conflicts.

  • Space Force
    • Starring Steve Carell and John Malkovich

Space Force is a new Netflix comedy aiming to hook fans of The Office as a new, space-themed office sitcom. A play on President Trump’s plan to create a “space force”, this series takes place in the office of a fictional new division of the U.S. Armed Forces.

  • Hollywood
    • Starring Darren Criss and Patti LuPone

Created by all-star director Ryan Murphy, Hollywood will hone in on Hollywood in the 1940s. A bright and sparkly period piece, Hollywood provides pure entertainment while aiming to portray the evolution (and, in many ways, lack thereof) of Hollywood over the decades.

  • Locke and Key
    • Starring Darby Stanchfield and Emilia Jones

Based on the American comic book series by Joe Hill, Locke and Key offers audiences drama, horror, and a supernatural plotline. The plot follows three siblings who find powerful magical keys in their ancestral home but must fight off a demon to keep them.

Hulu

FX Content and More Originals

One of the most exciting new developments in 2020 for Hulu is that it will offer top content from FX. FX, a leading TV network, hasn’t before been available to stream. Now, Hulu subscribers will enjoy popular FX content whenever they want, including shows like Devs, Mrs. America, and The Old Man.

Hulu will also release its own selection of new original series, namely:

  • High Fidelity
    • Starring Zoë Kravitz and Da’Vine Randolph

Zoë Kravitz plays Rob, a Brooklyn record shop owner, and serves as an executive director, in this unconventional romantic drama. Audiences will follow Rob as she reflects on the relationships of her past through the mediums of music and culture.

  • Nine Perfect Strangers
    • Starring Nicole Kidman

Based on the most recent book from Liane Moriarty, author of Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers follows the events of a 10-day retreat at a wellness resort. Nine strangers must navigate the winding, unpredictable process run by the resort director, who is played by Kidman.

  • Normal People
    • Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal

Another book-to-TV adaptation, Normal People is based on Sally Rooney’s bestselling novel from 2018. The story follows two Dublin teenagers as they go through high school and Trinity College, exploring the complexities of relationships in young adulthood.

Amazon Prime Video

Fresh Seasons of Fan-Favorite Series

Amazon Prime Video is starting the year with big-name content including Star Trek: Picard and Treadstone. But, despite the release of these heavy-hitters in January, Prime Video subscribers can look forward to exciting new content throughout the year. Hunters, starring Jordan Peele and Al Pacino, and Utopia, an adaptation of a memorable British show from 2013, are among the most highly anticipated Prime Video additions for 2020.

Prime Video will also cement its presence as a leading streaming service by releasing new seasons of some of its most popular original shows. The Boys, Hanna, Carnival Row, and Modern Love are the most noteworthy titles to look out for.

There’s no doubt that 2020 will be another extraordinary year for the streaming world. Be sure to look out for these titles in the coming months, and don’t forget to check back here for further updates.
